The Supplementary Volume was conceived in 1997 and completed in 1998 because the custodians of the original roll of honour decided that the book was too valuable to add more names so many years after that book was created. A decision was made to create a new book to display the two new names. This book, the ‘Supplementary Volume’ added just two names to the Borough of Keighley’s Great War 1914 – 1918 Roll of Honour.
These two names were:
Bowes, George
MacDonald, Henry
They included several spare pages for more names to be added, should they be discovered in the future.
In the centenary year of 2024 after a rigorous documentation and peer review process we added a further 103 names to this book, bringing the total in it to 105 and the total for both roll of honour books to 1011 names for the Borough of Keighley.
These new names were the result of many years of research into the people of Keighley who served in the Great War and they were unveiled in a public ceremony at Keighley Library on 9th November 2024.
My grandfather Ernest Goulding lived in Ingrow and joined up when he was 14 which was not allowed. It was too late when they discovered how old he was so he was sent to work with the medics.
