We sometimes run guided local history walks with a connection to the work of our Project and there is normally a small fee for these, payable at the start of each walk. The fee is to cover our costs, such as public liability insurance.
Keighley Walking Festival 2025:
Two walks by Andy Wade are planned for 2025, under Keighley Town Council’s Walking Festival.
https://www.keighley.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/114/2025/08/Walking-Festival-brochure-2025-2.pdf
These walks are funded by Keighley Town Council and are free to all attending, but you must book first.
Please do not just turn up and join the walk on the day.
Please email andy at menofworth and for the subject of the email, please use Tewitt walk for the 14th September, Canadian War Memorial walk, or Holden walk for the 21st September, walk in the park.
Or I will take bookings over the phone.
I will add names to the list on application and will post here when either walk is full. Once a walk is full I will close applications down and I would suggest booking early to avoid disappointment.

14 people attended this walk and they seemed to enjoy learning about our local history here in Oakworth!
Holden Park (Oakworth), Sunday 21st September 2025.
Duration: A 90 minute walk through Holden Park in Oakworth takes visitors around the park, discussing the history of Sir Isaac Holden’s former estate and looking at what remains today. Time will be spent talking about the two war memorials and some of the names inscribed on them. This walk is for a maximum of twenty people.
The park has some areas which can be slippery or loose underfoot, for anyone who might find it difficult. Cautions will be given when we come to those areas.

This walk has taken place. Just one person turned up despite the forecast but we managed to carry out the walk with plenty of time before the rain came!
Tewitt Lane, Wellington Bomber crash site, Sunday 14th September 2025.
This two hour long duration walk is for a maximum of twenty people and leaves at 12:30 pm from the side of the Golden Fleece Public House in Oakworth and the group walks about half a mile up Greyscar Road, a rough track and bridleway which leads up to the Grouse Inn (sorry, we’re not going into either pub!) This takes about 1/2 an hour to 3/4 hour each way. The route stops at the crash site and memorial stone and covers the story of the crash and the six Canadian airmen who died there on 2nd January 1944. The walk then retraces the route back to the Golden Fleece.
Duration: About two hours, set to coincide with Keighley to Oakworth K7 bus times for Sunday.
