ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED
A Roll of Honour, placed in the Keighley office of the Prudential Assurance Company in Cooke Street, was unveiled on Wednesday afternoon by Mr. R. Lindley (the inspector for Yorkshire). Mr. Lindley remarked that over 9,000 of the men of the indoor and outdoor staffs of the company, joined the forces, and about 880 made the supreme sacrifice. The local Roll of Honour takes the form of a parchment, enclosed in an oak frame, and it is a replica of the memorial which is to be erected in the court yard of the London office. The lettering has been done by students of the Keighley School of Art. On the roll appears the names of eleven of the company’s men from the Keighley district who joined the colours. One was killed in action.
Possible names:
Our research has found a few men who worked for Prudential Assurance in the Keighley district before serving in the Great War.
They were as follows, and may have been named on this memorial:
Clapham, James Raymond (killed in action on 21st June 1917)
Caley, Ernest William (survived the war)
Howden, Herbert (survived the war)
