Exley Head Methodist Church war memorials

There are two war memorials for Exley Head Methodist Church

The first is in the care of Bradford Museums and Art Galleries – at Cliffe Castle.
The second is a granite cross with five names, outside Exley Head Church.

A wooden framed and glazed roll of honour. On the paper is a list of 45 names of the Exley Head church parishioners who served, including the names of those who died in both wars. There are flags and scrolls at the top with coloured pillars at the sides and lion emblems at the bottom.

A light grey coloured granite memorial cross with a stepped base. On the base stones are the names of five men, two who died in the first World War and three men who died in the Second World War.

R.G.A. Killed in action nr. Messines, June 21, 1917 aged 19 years.

Pte. Harold Whitfield,
Duke of Wellington’s W.R.R. Died of wounds received in action in Flanders, March 17, 1918. Aged 22 years.

Pte. J. Fairfax Dean, Y & L. Rgt.
Drowned off Torbuk 1914 age 26.

Cpl. Pearson Crossly, R.A.S.C. Died P.O.W. Japan 1943 age 26.

P/O Pilot Douglas D. Smith, F.A.A.
Killed Northern Ireland 1945 Age 21.
